Dawood (David)

MORE BYAnisur Rahman

Dawood, also known as David in the Biblical narrative, was a Prophet and a messenger of God. He was the father of Prophet Suleiman and was endowed with many exceptional qualities like bravery, exceptional strength, sonorous voice and the art of softening iron to make weapons and fight against enemies. Earlier, he used to be a part of King Taalut’s (Saul) army that was up against the mighty giant Jaalut (Goliath). Although king Taalut’s army was sincere and committed but it was small in number and was not so strong as to face the onslaughts of Jaalut. It came up as a big surprise that when Jaalut challenged a man from the Israelite army to come forward for a duel, Dawood volunteered even when most of the seasoned soldiers were reluctant. He used his mastery of the slingshot and defeated Jaalut miraculously which earned him praise and respect from soldiers. Later, Dawood became the ruler of Israel and served his people with great dedication. He led his country without failing it ever and also worked towards the spiritual awakening of his people. Mentioned sixteen times in different Surahs of the Quran, he also figures in the narratives of Christianity and Judaism with certain variations.

Reerence: Shad ghazlein naheen aayaat-e-zabooran ko samajh/Lehn-e-Dawood se kuchh kam naheen naghma tera (Shad Azimabadi), Wahan ye shart ke ho zore-o-baazu-i- Mehmood/Yahaan ye qaid ke ho lehn-e Hazrat-e Dawood (Dilawar Figar).
