Tuur

MORE BYAnisur Rahman

Al-Tuur, also known as Mount Sinai, is mentioned in the Quran (Sura 52). Once Musa (Moses) was travelling with his family and when he reached a particular place, he saw a fire. He walked towards it and it is here that God spoke to Musa and professed that He would punish all the non-believers on the Day of Judgment and reward all those who would follow His path. This meant that there would be hell for the non-believers and heaven for the believers. While the actual location is still shrouded in controversy, it is speculated that this was the same place where the Taurat (Torah) was given to Musa at a later date.

Reference: Dil hi nigaah-e naaz ka ik ada shanaash tha/Jalwa-i-barq-e Tuur ne Tuur ko kyun jala diya (Fani Badayuni), Husn hi husn hai jis samt uthhata hoon nazar/Ab yahaan Tuur naheen barq-e sar-e Tuur naheen (Asrarul Haq Majaz).

Some poets have named their collections of poems after Tuur like Tajalli-e-Tuur (Abadal Ahmad Sehsawani), Chiragh-e Tuur (Behzaad Lucknowi), Jalwa-i-Tuur (H. R. Abdul Majeed). Shola-i-Tuur (Jigar Moradabadi).
