दोस्त जब ज़ी-वक़ार होता है
दोस्ती का मेयार होता है
When the friend is dignified and honourable
Friendship is the hallmark of dignity
अब तसव्वुर की सूनी वादी में
रोज़ जश्न-ए-बहार होता है
Now in the desolate Valley of the imagination
The Festival of Spring is celebrated everyday
गुलशन-ए-जाँ में उन के आने से
गुल-सिफ़त कारोबार होता है
With their coming into the Garden of Life
Business, Like the transaction of flowers,blooms
जब बिछड़ जाता है कोई अपना
ग़म ही बस रोज़गार होता है
When those close to us are separated
Sorrow is the only trade and commerce
चाँद का रक़्स हो रहा है कहीं
दिल यहाँ से निसार होता है
Somewhere,the dance of the moon is taking place
Here,our heart is being frittered away
शाख़-दर-शाख़ होती है ज़ख़्मी
जब परिंदा शिकार होता है
Branch after branch gets wounded
When the bird becomes the prey
