زیر نظرمجموعہ کے افسانوں میں ایک مخصوص نظریئے کی ترجمانی فنکارانہ حیثیت سے کی گئی ہے کہ نفس آدمیت خوبیوں اور برائیوں کا مرکب ہے ۔ کبھی لذت نفس پر فریفتہ ہوتا ہے اور جب اس لذتیت سے اکتا جاتا ہے تو خوبیوں کے خول میں دبک جاتا ہے۔ بعض افسانوں کی زبان میں جنسیت کا عنصر غالب ہے ۔ان افسانوں کے کردار سے ایسی فضا کی تخلیق کردی جاتی ہے کہ قاری کردار کے حرکات و سکنات سے پیدا کی ہوئی فضا سے مختلف کڑیوں کو ملا کر نظریئے کی مرکزیت تک پہنچ جاتا ہے۔ افسانوں کی زبان میں قوت بیانی، تمہید کا حسن اور پلاٹ و کردار میں فنکارانہ انداز مجموعے کی انفرادیت کی توثیق کرتے ہیں۔ کتاب کا نام اس کے دوسرے افسانہ "چپ" سے موسوم ہے اور اس میں بھی ایک لطیف پیغام ہے جسے افسانہ پڑھنے کے بعد بخوبی محسوس کیا جاسکتا ہے۔

About The Author

One of the celebrated fiction writers, Mumtaz Mufti made several experiments in technique of storytelling with reference to the issues he chose to highlight before his readers. He developed a keen eye for the psychological studies of his characters. He also wrote a voluminous novel entitled Alipur Ka Aili which was later recognized as one the best known novels in the Urdu language.

Mumtaz Mufti was born on 11 September, 1905 at Batala in Gurdaspur, Punjab. He received his early education at Amritsar, Miyanwali, and Dera Ghazi. Later, he got his degrees of B. A. from Islamia College, Lahore in 1929 and S. A. V from Central College, Lahore in 1933. He worked for All India Radio and also for Bombay film industry. He migrated to Pakistan in 1947 where he worked on important positions for the Government of Pakistan. He passed away on 27 October, 1995.  
Mumtaz Mufti published his short stories in Ankahi, Gehma Gehmi, Chup, Gudia Ghar, and Raughani Putle. He published his light essays in Kaise Kaise Log and put together his sketches in Pyaz ke Chchilke. He also wrote his Hajj travelogue called Labbaik which received remarkable applause from his readers
