Pratham Books was established in 2004 with the mission of providing children with high-quality, affordable, and accessible books. It is an educational publishing initiative of Pratham, one of India's leading non-profit organizations, dedicated to promoting reading habits and mother-tongue education among children across the country. Guided by the vision of placing a book in the hands of every child in their own language, the organization has made affordable and quality publishing its hallmark.

Pratham Books has published more than 14 million books in 18 Indian languages, including Urdu. Its publications include storybooks, picture books, educational material, and creative literature for children. Through initiatives such as "Donate a Book", carried out in collaboration with various voluntary organizations, the institution works to ensure that books reach underprivileged children and encourages a lifelong love of reading.

A selected collection of Pratham Books' Urdu publications has also been shared with Rekhta and is now available through the Rekhta Digital Library, enabling children, teachers, parents, and researchers around the world to access quality Urdu educational and children's literature online.
