Adeeb, Agra

Adeeb Firozabad Agra was an important scholarly and literary magazine. Its title page carried the inscription: "A completely new-style monthly scholarly magazine." The editor of Adeeb was Syed Akbar Ali Akbarabadi, a graduate of Calcutta University, Kolkata. The magazine’s objectives stated: "Adeeb is a unique and entirely modern magazine in India. Its primary purpose is to cultivate an appreciation for high literature in the country… and to establish that there is no inherent conflict between science and religion." In addition to summaries of high-quality articles from other magazines, Adeeb published reviews of newly published books. It featured content under various categories such as science, wonders of the world, historical events, reviews, and general knowledge. Articles related to astronomy, botany, and other scientific subjects were also published, making the magazine widely appreciated. Allama Shibli Nomani remarked: "Among the current magazines, I consider Adeeb to be the best."
