Saba

Saba was published from Hyderabad under the editorship of Sulaiman Areeb. Its advisory board included prominent personalities such as Habib-ur-Rahman, Fazl-ur-Rahman, Dr. Tahir Ali Khan, Muslim, Rai Janki Prasad, Dr. Hafeez Qateel, Alam Khundmiri, Dilawar Ali Khan, and Razia Begum. In the editorial board, apart from Sulaiman Areeb, the names of Hussaini Shahid and Waheed Akhtar were also mentioned in some issues. This magazine played a significant role in publishing progressive literary works and contributed to the promotion and dissemination of progressive ideas. The editorials of Saba were thought-provoking and eye-opening, reflecting the editor's deep insight into the contemporary literary landscape. Sulaiman Areeb was aware of the decline in quality writers. Saba featured a column of letters under the title "Bazgasht" (Echo) and introduced a section called "Jaan Pehchaan" (Acquaintance), where introductory and critical essays on contemporary personalities were published. Several special issues of Saba were published, including the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad issue, Shibli issue, National Unity issue, Nehru issue, Kashmir issue, and Makhdoom Mohiuddin issue. After Sulaiman Areeb’s demise, Safia Areeb took over as editor and made every possible effort to maintain Saba's previous high standards.
