غ g̠ain called g̠ain-ě-moʻjama, or g̠ain-ě-manqūt̤a

غ g̠ain (called g̠ain-ě-moʻjama, or g̠ain-ě-manqūt̤a), the twenty-fifth letter of the Urdū alphabet (the twenty-second of the Persian, and the nineteenth of the Arabic). It is a guttural g accompanied by a grating sound as in gargling, of which there is no example in English;—the Northumbrian r, and the French r in grasséyé are approximations to it. It occurs chiefly in Persian and Arabic words; but it is also found in some Hindūstānī words, in which it takes the place of an original g, or gh. It has no corresponding character in the Devanāgarī alphabet; and hence, when it occurs in words borrowed from the Persian or Arabic, it is usually represented by . Its numerical value (according to abjad) is 1000.
