Profile of Suhail Naqsh
Identity: Poet, Writer
Dr. Muhammad Suhail, known by his pen name Suhail Naqsh, is counted among the contemporary poets of Urdu. His poetry reflects various experiences of life, human emotions, and social issues. A simple, fluent, and natural style of expression is the distinctive feature of his poetry.
Dr. Muhammad Suhail was born on 18 January 1962 in Karachi. His parents belonged to the old areas of Delhi, namely Sadar Bazar and Paharganj, and Urdu is the mother tongue from both sides of his family. He has spent a long period abroad; he lived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for nearly twenty years and for the past few years has been residing in Ankara, Türkiye.
Suhail Naqsh developed an interest in poetry during his student days. There was also a poetic tradition in his family: his uncle was a poet of naat, and his grandfather also wrote poetry, although unfortunately their poetry has not been preserved.
His first poetry collection “Naqsh-e-Sukhan” represents his creative personality. In this collection, the poet has attempted to portray the issues of human life, inner and outer experiences, and social realities with artistic skill. His poetry reflects sincerity of emotions, depth of thought, and freshness of style, expressed in simple and everyday language. Rather than imitating any particular school or poet, he has shaped his own distinctive style, which carries fluency, clarity, and intellectual breadth.
The various themes and emotions present in “Naqsh-e-Sukhan” reach the reader as a unified whole and leave a strong impression. For this reason, literary circles appreciated this collection and congratulated the poet on its publication.
