Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, is one of India's leading institutions of higher education. Established on 1 August 1989, the university is located in the Tughlaqabad area of South Delhi and is widely recognized for excellence in higher education, particularly in medicine, pharmacy, Unani medicine, science, and other contemporary disciplines. Over the years, Jamia Hamdard has earned national and international recognition for academic excellence, achieving notable distinction in pharmacy education and research.

The University's Hakim Mohammad Said Central Library is one of its most valuable academic assets. Named after Hakim Mohammad Said, the younger brother of the University's founder Hakim Abdul Hameed, the library houses a collection of approximately 150,000 books covering a wide range of disciplines. Its holdings include rare books and periodicals in Urdu, Persian, and Arabic, as well as a significant collection of Urdu translations of scientific and medical literature. The library serves as an important research resource for students, faculty members, and scholars.

To preserve and expand access to its valuable Urdu collection, Jamia Hamdard collaborated with Rekhta. As a result, a substantial portion of the rare Urdu holdings of the Hakim Mohammad Said Central Library is now available through the Rekhta Digital Library, enabling readers, students, and researchers around the world to access this important scholarly heritage online.
