Identity: A Mysterious Pen Name Backed by Multiple Authors

Deeba Khanum is a well-known yet mysterious name in Urdu literature, particularly in the realm of popular and romantic fiction. Diverse opinions exist within literary circles regarding her true identity. It is generally believed that "Deeba Khanum" is not a single real individual but a pseudonym under which multiple authors published their works.

According to literary traditions and statements from certain men of letters, the renowned novelist Mohiuddin Nawab played a significant role behind this name. It is said that during his association with M.A. Zahid in Lahore, he authored several novels, children's stories, and other creative works under the name "Deeba Khanum." According to some accounts, this literary treasure remained preserved for a long time but was eventually lost in a fire.

Furthermore, it is claimed that other writers also wrote under the moniker "Deeba Khanum," most notably Dr. Balighuddin Javed and Zia Sajid. Zia Sajid also wrote romantic novels under the pen name "Simran Chaudhary," while Dr. Balighuddin Javed occasionally wrote under other famous pseudonyms and even faced legal challenges in this regard.

Based on eyewitness accounts and prevailing rumors in literary circles, Mohiuddin Nawab admitted in private conversations that he had been writing as "Deeba Khanum," and his identity could be discerned through his unique prose style.

Moreover, when a female artist later appeared using the name "Deeba Khanum" and was questioned about it, she narrated a story consistent with the accounts already circulating in literary circles.
