    chāñd sitāre qaid haiñ saare vaqt ke bandī-ḳhāne meñ

    lekin maiñ āzād huuñ saaqī chhoTe se paimāne meñ

    umr hai faanī umr hai baaqī is kuchh parvā nahīñ

    ye kah de vaqt lagegā kitnā aane jaane meñ

    tujh se duurī duurī kab thī paas aur duur to dhokā haiñ

    farq nahīñ anmol ratan ko kho kar phir se paane meñ

    do pal thī andhī javānī nā-dānī bhar paayā

    umr bhalā kyuuñ biite saarī ro ro kar pachhtāne meñ

    pahle terā dīvāna thā ab hai apnā dīvāna

    pāgal-pan hai vaisā kuchh farq nahīñ dīvāne meñ

    ḳhushiyāñ aa.iiñ achchhā aa.iiñ mujh ko kyā ehsās nahīñ

    sudh-budh saarī bhuul gayā huuñ dukh ke giit sunāne meñ

    apnī biitī kaise sunā.eñ mad-mastī bāteñ haiñ

    'mīrā-jī' jīvan biitā paas ke ik mai-ḳhāne meñ

    chand sitare qaid hain sare waqt ke bandi-KHane mein

    lekin main aazad hun saqi chhoTe se paimane mein

    umr hai fani umr hai baqi is ki kuchh parwa hi nahin

    tu ye kah de waqt lagega kitna aane jaane mein

    tujh se duri duri kab thi pas aur dur to dhoka hain

    farq nahin anmol ratan ko kho kar phir se pane mein

    do pal ki thi andhi jawani na-dani ki bhar paya

    umr bhala kyun bite sari ro ro kar pachhtane mein

    pahle tera diwana tha ab hai apna diwana

    pagal-pan hai waisa hi kuchh farq nahin diwane mein

    KHushiyan aain achchha aain mujh ko kya ehsas nahin

    sudh-budh sari bhul gaya hun dukh ke git sunane mein

    apni biti kaise sunaen mad-masti ki baaten hain

    'mira-ji' ka jiwan bita pas ke ek mai-KHane mein
