pata chalā ki usī dāstāñ ke the hī nahīñ
safar se lauT ke hairat huī parinde ko
ye ḳhār-o-ḳhas to mire āshiyāñ ke the hī nahīñ
har ek rañg meñ dekhā hai us ko āñkhoñ ne
ye rañg pahle kabhī āsmāñ ke the hī nahīñ
hameñ bahār ke mausam meñ le uḌī hai havā
vo barg-e-zard haiñ ham jo ḳhizāñ ke the hī nahīñ
isī liye nahīñ rakkhā hisāb sāñsoñ kā
ki mas.ale kabhī sūd-o-ziyāñ ke the hī nahīñ
talāsh karte ho kyuuñ 'shād' guzre lamhoñ ko
vo rāh-rau to kisī kārvāñ ke the hī nahīñ

ki masale kabhi sud-o-ziyan ke the hi nahin
talash karte ho kyun 'shad' guzre lamhon ko
wo rah-rau to kisi karwan ke the hi nahin
