bujhtī samundaroñ se ye vo tishnagī na thī
ḳhud meñ magan the log koī be-ḳhudī na thī
dīvāngī kā Dhoñg thā dīvāngī na thī
rasta bhī ab to bhuul ga.e apne ghar kā ham
vāraftagī to thī magar itnī kabhī na thī
apnī sadā kī guuñj thī sahrā-e-zīst meñ
us ke sivā kahīñ koī āvāz hī na thī
dil se 'zafar' huā thā jo sho.ala sā ik buland
thā vo bhī ik fareb-e-nazar raushnī na thī

KHud mein magan the log koi be-KHudi na thi
diwangi ka Dhong tha diwangi na thi
rasta bhi ab to bhul gae apne ghar ka hum
waraftagi to thi magar itni kabhi na thi
apni sada ki gunj thi sahra-e-zist mein
us ke siwa kahin koi aawaz hi na thi
dil se 'zafar' hua tha jo shoala sa ek buland
tha wo bhi ek fareb-e-nazar raushni na thi
