vo naqsh-e-pā haiñ koī dūsrā chale to gire
tire qadam pe tirā āshnā chale to gire
mujhe hai ilm-e-taḳhayyul kī tez-gāmī kā
tire ḳhayāl meñ baiThā huā chale to gire
na sochī baat jo tū ne vo likh na jā.ūñ kahīñ
qalam ye tere liye sochtā chale to gire
qubūl kar liyā qabroñ ne saarī lāshoñ ko
yahāñ nigāh koī ab uThā chale to gire
ye be-ḳhudī meñ sambhalnā to sahl hai 'aḳhtar'
hamārī raah koī pārsā chale to gire

tere qadam pe tera aashna chale to gire
mujhe hai ilm-e-taKHayyul ki tez-gami ka
tere KHayal mein baiTha hua chale to gire
na sochi baat jo tu ne wo likh na jaun kahin
qalam ye tere liye sochta chale to gire
qubul kar liya qabron ne sari lashon ko
yahan nigah koi ab uTha chale to gire
ye be-KHudi mein sambhalna to sahl hai 'aKHtar'
hamari rah koi parsa chale to gire
