Fasahat Lakhnavi was a distinguished and stylistically unique Urdu poet, regarded as a representative of Lucknow’s classical poetic tradition. He was born on 12 Sha'ban 1273 AH and lost his father at an early age. His father, the renowned writer Amanat Lakhnavi (author of Inder Sabha), passed away when he was still young. His upbringing and education were supervised by his elder brother, Syed Hasan Latafat, whose literary company refined his natural poetic inclination.
In a short span of time, Fasahat Lakhnavi established his poetic prowess. His work is marked by originality, refined and elegant language, and strong craftsmanship. His poetry beautifully reflects the delicacy, vibrancy, and subtle elegance characteristic of Lucknow’s literary culture. He is counted among the prominent poets of his era, and he also had a considerable circle of disciples.
Initially, his poetry was published under various names, which limited its recognition among general readers. However, it was later compiled and presented in a new arrangement under the title Diwan-e-Fasahat. The preface to this collection was written by the noted writer Maulana Abdul Halim Sharar, and it also includes poetic tributes by his contemporaries and students—serving as clear testimony to Fasahat Lakhnavi’s literary greatness.
