Idara-e-Adabiyat-e-Urdu, Hyderabad, was founded in 1931 by the renowned scholar, linguist, and historian Dr. Syed Mohiuddin Qadri Zore, with the support of Abdul Qadir Sarwari, Abdul Majeed Siddiqui, Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui, and Naseeruddin Hashmi. Established to promote Urdu language, literature, research, publishing, and the preservation of the Deccan's literary heritage, the institution soon evolved into a leading center for safeguarding the region's shared cultural, linguistic, and historical identity. It championed Urdu as a language enriched by diverse linguistic and cultural influences, reflecting the pluralistic spirit of the Deccan. The vibrant intellectual atmosphere of Osmania University also played a significant role in shaping the institution's scholarly vision and activities.

The Idara made remarkable contributions to the study and publication of Deccani literature, history, and manuscripts. In 1938, it launched the celebrated literary and research journal Sabras, which continues to be regarded as one of the most respected Urdu journals in South Asia. The institution produced pioneering research on the literary history of the Deccan, the Qutb Shahi period, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, Siraj Aurangabadi, and many other eminent personalities. It edited and published rare manuscripts and promoted translations from various languages into Urdu, thereby strengthening the Deccan's composite cultural heritage. Following the events of 1948, the Idara played a crucial role in preserving rare manuscripts and private library collections that might otherwise have been lost. Today, its library houses more than 40,000 rare books and manuscripts, serving scholars and researchers from India and abroad.

Through literary activities, historical conferences, Yom-e-Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah, seminars, publications, and scholarly research, Idara-e-Adabiyat-e-Urdu has made an enduring contribution to preserving and promoting the Deccan's inclusive, pluralistic, and literary heritage.
