Jaleel Ahmad Khan (pen name: Jaleel NaumaniRampuri), born in 1905 in Rampur, was one of the distinguished and master poets of Rampur’s rich Urdu poetic tradition. Renowned for his refined ghazal sensibility and classical command over language, he held a respected place among the eminent poets of his time.
In recognition of his literary excellence, he was honoured with the title “Aabru-e-Ghazal” by the Urdu Academy, and the honorific “Hazrat” by the Saulat Public Library. The Urdu Academy, Lucknow also granted him a literary pension, which he received until his demise—an acknowledgment of his lasting contribution to Urdu literature.
His poetic legacy is preserved through his Diwan, Kaif-e-Tamam, copies of which are housed in prestigious institutions such as the Raza Library, Rampur, and the Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna. Jaleel Naumani’s work continues to be valued for its depth, elegance, and enduring impact on the ghazal tradition.
