Rasheed Rampuri is best known as a poet of ghazal. He followed the classical norms of poetry writing but found space for contemporary concerns which made his poetry appealing to his readers. He was a very prolific poet who practised almost all genres of Urdu poetry. This is borne out by the fact that he published as many as fifteen collections of his poetry while all that remained unpublished far exceeded his published works.
He was born in 1892 at Rampur. After studying Arabic, Persian, and Islamic literature, he acquired a degree in Unani medicine at Lucknow. He stayed in Lucknow for about twenty two years to receive his education and thereafter pursue his profession as a healer. His preoccupations with Lucknow and his career as a healer are well reflected in his poetry. He passed away on 08 April, 1964 at Lucknow.
