Profile of Syed Qaisar Abbas zaidi

Dr. Qaisar Abbas Zaidi was born on 30 December 1962 in Lahore. He belongs to a distinguished literary family. His father, Afser-ush-Shuara Maulana Syed Afser Abbas Zaidi, was a respected Urdu poet, while his mother, Nazakat Begum Zaidi, was known for her devotion to the Ahl-e-Bait. Growing up in such an environment nurtured his early interest in Urdu literature, religion, and intellectual pursuits.
He received his early education in Lahore and later obtained a BSc degree from University of the Punjab. He then pursued medical studies at King Edward Medical College, where he completed his MBBS. Subsequently, he moved abroad for higher specialization, earning a Diploma in Mental Health (DMH) from Ireland and the MRCPsych qualification from the United Kingdom. He currently serves as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the UK, with particular expertise in personality disorders and forensic psychiatry.
Dr. Zaidi’s literary interests began during his student years when he actively participated in debates, literary competitions, and poetry recitations. His first ghazal was published during his college years, and he continued contributing to literary magazines and journals. Over time, he established himself as a poet and essayist.
His published works include the poetry collections Dasht-e-Tanhai and Sahil-e-Arzoo. Other notable books include Barg-e-Takhayyul (ghazals), Zara Mausam Badalne Do (poems), Elan-e-Haq (devotional poetry including manqabats, salaams, and marsiyas), and Halaanke (humorous poetry). His prose work Takhleeqi Zaviye contains literary essays and critical reflections.
Dr. Qaisar Abbas Zaidi also performed an important scholarly service by compiling the Kulliyat of his father Afser Abbas Zaidi, which includes more than ten thousand verses. He was also part of the panel responsible for the Urdu translation of the psychiatry chapter of the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases.
While residing in the United Kingdom, he has remained actively involved in the promotion of Urdu language and literature. He has participated in numerous international mushairas and literary gatherings and has organized several cultural events through literary platforms. He currently resides near Sheffield, where he continues to balance his professional career in psychiatry with his literary pursuits.
