A حال ḥāl (fr. حول 'to become altered or changed'), s.m. State, condition, circumstance, case, predicament, situation; existing or present state (as of revenue collections, &c.); a state of ecstasy, frenzy, or religious transport;—present time; (in Gram.) the present tense;—good condition, prosperous circumstances;—business, affair, matter, thing; statement, account, story, history;—adj. & adv. Present, current, now passing;—at present, &c. (=ḥāl-meṅ, al-ḥāl, qq.v.):—ḥāl ānā (-ko), To be inspired, to be thrown into ecstasies:—ḥāl-āṅ-ki, adv. Whereas, now that, since, though, although, notwithstanding, however, yet, even:—ḥāl-bāqī, s.f. Present or current balance:—ḥāl-be-ḥāl honā, v.n. The state to be altered from good to bad, to be deteriorated, become ill-conditioned or out of condition, be disordered, be in a bad way:—ḥāl-pursī, s.f. Inquiring after health, &c.:—ḥāl-ě-peshīn, s.m. The former or original state:—ḥāl-hāl (or ḥālī-hālī) ćalnā, v.n. To go quickly, walk in haste:—ḥāl-ě-sābiq, ḥāl-sābiq, s.m. The former or past state or condition:—ḥāl-sāl, s.m. The present or current year, this year:—ḥāl-shikasta, adj. 'In broken condition,' ruined, distressed, wretched:—ḥāl lānā, v.n. To get into a state of ecstasy or frenzy:—ḥāl-meṅ = al-ḥāl = fiʼl-ḥāl, adv. At the present time, at present; for the present, for the time being;—instantly, immediately:—ba-har-ḥāl, adv. In any case:—tabāh-ḥāl, shikasta-ḥāl, adj. In straitened circumstances, badly off, &c. (=ḥāl-shikasta).
