P دربار darbār [dar, 'in,' q.v.+bār = S. वार], s.m. A house, dwelling; court, area; hall of audience, court; holding of a court, a levee; royal audience; the executive government of a native state:—darbār bāṅdhnā (-ke?), To bribe, give bribes:—darbār-ě-ḵẖāṣṣ, s.m. Private audience:—darbār-ḵẖarć, s.m. Court charges, political or diplomatic expenditure; charge for presents and gratuities made to princes and public functionaries, and for bribes, &c. (under the Mohammadan rule, an addition made to the assessment by government officers, or the zamīndārs, on the plea of providing for gratuities, exacted by their superiors or the state, on their payment of the revenue):—darbār-dārī, s.f. Presence or attendance at court:—darbār-dārī karnā (-kī), To be assiduous at court; to dance attendance (on), to be obsequious:—darbār-ě-ʻām, s.m. Public audience; public hall of audience:—darbār karnā, To hold a court or levee.
