A قابض qābiẓ (act. part. of قبض 'to take, seize, grasp,' &c.), part. adj. & s.m. Taking, seizing, grasping, holding, possessing;—astringent; constipating;—taker, seizer, &c.; holder, possessor, occupier, occupant, party in possession; a sequestrator;—an astringent, a constipator:—qābiẓ-ě-shikamī, s.m. Under-tenant, sub-lessee:—qābiẓuʼl-arwāḥ, s.m. 'The seizer of souls,' the angel of death:—qābiẓ honā or ho-jānā, or qābiẓ ho-baithnā (-par), To seize (on), get hold (of), take possession (of); to enter on occupation (of), or settle (upon, another's land).
