A لا lā, neg. adv., or priv. particle, No, not, by no means; there is not; without (it occurs in combination with Arabic or Persian words, and may sometimes be rendered by the English neg. prefixes un-, in-, ir-, im-, or the affix less):—lā-ubālī, vulg. lāʼo-bālī (fr. A. lā ubāl, 'I care not'), adj. Fearing nothing, fearless; insolent; careless, thoughtless, indifferent; licentious; petulant;—s.f. Fearlessness, carelessness; thoughtlessness, indifference:—lā-ummatī, s.m.
