چاند चांद ćāṅd
H چاند चांद ćāṅd [Prk. चन्दो or चंदो; S. चन्द्रः], s.m. The moon; the crown of the head; a white spot in the forehead of cattle, &c. (and many other things which are moon-like); a semi-lunar gold ornament (worn under two others on the head); a target or mark (to shoot at); a lunar month:—ćāṅd-tārā, s.m. Cloth figured with moons and stars; a robe made of flowered muslin, &c.:—ćāṅd ćhipānā, v.n. To change as the moon:—ćāṅd dekhnā, v.n. To look out for, or to see, the new moon as soon as it is visible:—ćāṅd-rāt, s.f. The night of new moon, the first night of a lunar month:—ćāṅd-kā ṭukṛā, s.m.f. lit. 'Piece of the moon'; a lovely person (man or woman), a beauty (syn. mah-pāra):—ćāṅd-kā khet karnā, v.n. The moon to rise (e.g. ćāṅd-ne khet kiyā, 'the moon rose, or has risen'):—ćāṅd mārnā, To fire at a target or mark:—ćāṅd-mārī, s.f. Firing at a target; target-practice:—ćār ćāṅd lagnā, v.n. To have a splendid or beautiful appearance:—to be exalted, be raised to a post of honour;—to make a display, to act or walk ostentatiously:—ćaṛhtā ćāṅd, s.m. The rising moon:—ḍūbtā ćāṅd, s.m. The setting moon:—ḵẖālī-kā ćāṅd, s.m. The month of ẕī-qād (in which no festival is held, and which is considered unlucky).
