A عقل ʻaql (inf. n. of عقل 'to be or become intelligent,' &c.), s.f. Intelligence, wisdom, sense, understanding, intellect, mind, reason, knowledge; opinion:—ʻaql-ě -insānī, s.f. The head to be in a whirl; the brain to be a-wool-gathering; to be confused and distracted:—ʻaql jātī rahnā, v.n.=ʻaql mārī jānā, q.v.:—ʻaql-ě-ḥaiwānī, s.f. Animal instinct:—ʻaql ḵẖabt̤ honā, v.n. The mind to be deranged; to be confused and distracted:—ʻaql ḵẖarć karnā, or ʻaql dauṛānā, v.n. To use (one's) sense, to exercise (one's) mind, to consider, think, reason:—ʻaql-se bāhar, or ʻaql-se dūr, adj. Inconceivable; unreasonable; nonsensical:—ʻaql-ě-kul, s.m. Sole counsellor, mentor;—the angel Gabriel:—ʻaql mārī-jānā, v.n. To be bereft of sense or understanding, to lose (one's) senses, or wits:—ʻaql-mand, adj. See s.v.:—ʻaql-meṇ ānā, v.n.
