A شق shiqq, vulg. shiq, and shaqq, vulg. shaq (v.n. fr. شقّ; see shaqq), s.f. The half (of a thing); the side (of a mountain, &c.); the counterpart (of a thing); a brother; a friend;—a large division of a country, a tract of country forming a collectorate;—kind, sort; difficulty, hardship, distress, affliction, trouble, labour, inconvenience; suspense; weariness, languor (syn. mashaqqat):—shiq-dār, s.m. An officer appointed to collect the revenue from a shiq;—adj. Difficult, distressing; uncertain, perplexing, &c.:—shiq-dārī, s.f. The office or business of a shiq-dār;—uncertainty, perplexity, &c.
