عقائد ʻaqāʼid

A عقائد ʻaqāʼid, s.m. pl. (of ʻaqīda), Articles of faith, religious tenets.

عقد ʻaqd inf. n. of عقد 'to tie,' c.

A عقد ʻaqd (inf. n. of عقد 'to tie,' &c.), s.m. A tie, knot;

the marriage-knot, marriage (=ʻaqd-ě-nikāḥ); a contract, compact, covenant, agreement, league, treaty, engagement;—responsibility, accountableness, suretiship;—(prob. corr. fr. A. ʻiqd) a necklace, a collar; a bulse, a string (of pearls, &c.):—ʻaqd-bandī, s.f. The tying of the marriage-knot; concluding a contract, &c.:—ʻaqd karnā, v.t. To give (one) in marriage; to take in marriage, to marry, wed:—ʻaqd-meṅ lānā, v.t. To marry, wed:—ʻaqd-nāma, s.m. Marriage-contract:—ʻaqd honā, v.n. To be married.

An affected person, fop, swaggerer:—akaṛ-bāzī, s.f. Affectation, strutting, swaggering, airs, foppishness; ostentation, show; pride, haughtiness:—akaṛ-bāʼī, s.f. The cramp (see bāʼī:—akaṛ-pakaṛ, akaṛ-takaṛ, akṛam-takṛam, s.f.=akaṛ-bāzī, q.v.
