H بسنت बसन्त basant [S. वसन्तः], s.m. Spring, the vernal season (comprising Ćait and Baisākh, or from the middle of March to that of May); the vernal equinox;—name of one of the rāgs or musical modes of the Hindūs;—small-pox;—garland or wreath of yellow flowers:—basant phūlnā, v.n. To put forth yellow blossoms (like those of the mustard plant); to have yellow pustules, &c. on the face; to turn yellow or pale (generally with the words muṅh-par; e.g. uske munh-par basant phūlā); yellow sparks to fly (out of the eyes; e.g. āṅkhoṅ-meṅ basant phūlā; hence), to be dazzled, be astonished or amazed:—basant-panćamī, s.f. The vernal festival of the Hindūs on the fifth day of the light half of the month Māgh:—basant-ritu, basant-rut, s.m. The season of spring:—basant-kī ḵẖabar, s.f. Knowledge of, or concern about, futurity.
