H چهانٿنا छांटना ćhāṅṭnā [ćhāṅṭ˚ = Prk. छट्ट(इ)? fr. S. त्वष्ट, rt. त्वक्ष्], v.t. To cut, clip, pare, crop, lop, prune, trim, dress; to cut off, cut clean through; to cut up (an army, &c.); to knock off; to cut out (clothes); to cut down, reduce, retrench (allowances, expenses, &c.); to abbreviate, abridge, curtail;—to pick, pick out, cull, select, sort, to separate the husk from grain (by pounding it in a mortar), to husk; to sift; to remove (dirt, straws, &c. by some light and smart process); to wash (clothes) slightly (without boiling them); to clean, clear (of weeds, &c.);—to reject;—to discuss (rumour, news, &c.); to chop (words, politics, &c.):—ćhāṅt-lenā, v.t. (intens.) To cut off; to cut out; to cut up, &c.; also=ćhāṅṭnā.
