? چوٿي चोटी ćoṭī, [S. चूड or चोड+इका], s.f. A lock of hair left on the top of the head (the rest being shaven off); the hair braided or plaited and hung down behind, a cue; a coil (of hair), a top-knot; an ornament worn on the head (by women); crest (of a bird); top, summit, acme; peak (of a mountain); pinnacle; apex, vertex; the part by which a balance is suspended:—ćoṭī āsmān-par ghisnā, 'To rub the top of the head against the sky'; to be very vain; to be very aspiring or ambitious:—ćoṭī-dār, adj. Having a ćoṭī; having a crest, crested; having a peak; pointed, tapering:—ćoṭī-rakhnā, To retain a lock of hair on the top of the head (as a votive offering, &c.);—to overcharge:—ćoṭī-kā, adj. (f. -ī), The highest, the best, the most excellent, the acme of, the pith or essence of (e.g. ćoṭī-kī bāt):—ćoṭī-kā honā, v.n. To excel, be pre-eminent or unrivalled, &c.:—ćoṭī-kaṭ, s.m. lit. 'One whose ćoṭī is cut off'; one under control or subjection, a slave:—ćoṭī kaṭwānā, To have the ćoṭī cut off; to be under subjection, to be obedient, to be a slave:—ćoṭī karnā, ćoṭī gūṅdhnā, To braid or plait the hair:—ćoṭī-wālā, adj. & s.m.
