P دام dām [=S. दामन्, rt. दा 'to bind'], s.m. A net, a snare:—dām-dār, s.m. One who uses a net or snare; a fisherman; a fowler, &c.:—dām-dārī, s.f. The laying of nets;—a branch of revenue arising from fowlers, players, musicians, &c.:—dām-gāh, dām-gah, s.f. Place of snares:—dām-meṅ lānā (-ko), To bring (one) into a snare, to ensnare, entrap.

Money; price, value, cost (syn. mol; qīmat);—a copper coin, or a measure of money-value, equal to one twenty-fifth of a paisā (at the present time: in the time of Akbar the dām is said to have been of the value of one fortieth of a rupee):—dām-ans, s.m. A purchased share (of an estate or village, &c.):—dām bharnā, To pay, or pay in, the price or value (of, -kā),—to take the price or value (of), to charge (for):—dām-dām, s.m. The whole amount, every fraction to the last farthing:—dām denā (-ko), To pay (one) the price or value (of, -kā).

Perpetually drinking wine;—a sot, a drunkard:—dāʼimuʼl-maraẓ, adj. Always sick.
