H گهس घिस ghis, s.f. [fr. ghisnā, q.v.], = H گهسا घिसा ghisā, or घिस्सा ghissā, s.m. Rubbing; a rub;—friction; abrasion:—ghis ghis-kar ćalnā, v.n. To go rubbing along; to move with friction or rubbing;—to rub along; to drag along;—to last long (as shoes, &c.):—ghis lagānā (-kī), To rub (particularly, to rub the forehead of one who has a headache with a cowrie, in order to afford relief):—ghis lagāne-ko na honā, 'To be not enough for a rub'; (fig.) to be scarce:—ghissā lagnā (-ko), To be rubbed or abraded:—ghissā-mīrī, s.f. A boys' game (rubbing one string upon another to see which will first be worn through).

Grass and leaves;—vegetation;—greens;—gardener's refuse; fallen and rotting leaves;—sweepings, rubbish:—ghās-phūs or phūṅs, s.m. Old dry grass or straw; weeds:—ghās-kāṭā, or ghās-kaṭā, s.m. A man whose occupation it is to cut and supply fresh grass daily for a horse (syn. ghasiyārā):—ghās khānā, To eat (or to live on) grass; to eat hemp;—(fig.) to lose (one's) wits or senses:—ghās khodnā, To grub up grass (with a khurpā or hoe):—ghās-wālā, s.m. (f. -wālī), A man who cuts or sells grass.
