P حلقه ḥalqa (for A. حلقة ḥalqat, fem.; v.n. fr. حلق 'to shave'), s.m. A circle, a ring, hoop, link, loop, button-hole; the collar (of harness); a company (of people), assembly, fraternity; a circle, a circuit (of a village, &c.); a boundary line which includes all the lands and dwellings of a village or hamlet; knocker (of a door);—a kind of firework:—ḥalqa bāṅdhnā (-), To form a circle or ring;—to encompass, surround; to besiege:—ḥalqa ba-gosh, s.m. lit. 'Having a ring in the ear' (as a badge of servitude); a slave:—ḥalqa ba-goshī, s.f. Servitude, slavery:—ḥalqa-bandī, s.f. Arrangement of villages in circles or groups (for village accountants, schools, &c.); a concentric division of villages, &c.; of or pertaining to such an arrangement of villages, &c.:—ḥalqa-zan, s.m. Knocking (at a door).

(f. -ī), Light (in weight, or in character, or in colour, &c.); unimportant, of no consequence, of little moment; of little or low estimation, or authority, or influence; ineffectual; insignificant; frivolous, puerile; mean, pitiful, petty, scurvy, shabby, despicable, debased; silly;—small (as a measure, or capacity, &c.); weak; easy; poor (as soil, or as blood); shallow; mild, gentle, soft (as wind, heat, cold, rain, &c.); neap (tide);—faint, pale (as colour); soft (as water);—trifling, slight (matter, or work); manageable; easy of endurance;—light, easy of digestion (as food, or diet); of low price, or of little value; low, moderate; cheap;—depressed (trade):—halke-bhārī honā, To be weary (of), to feel burdensome;—to lower or humble oneself:—halkā-phulkā, or halkā-phūl, adj. Exceedingly light, light as a feather:—halkā jānnā, v.t. To think lightly or meanly of, to disesteem, despise, disdain, scorn:—halkā karnā, v.t. To lighten (a burden, &c.), assuage, ease, mitigate, alleviate, exonerate;—to abate, to reduce;—to lower (one, in the esteem of), to disgrace, to debase, to depreciate:—halkā mol lagānā (-meṅ), To put a low or moderate price (upon):—halke-halke, adv. Slowly, gently (syn. haule-haule).
