row or series of rafters that cover one side of a house; side piece of the frame of a bedstead (=pāṭī); parting of the hair in the middle; side-locks of hair over each temple; lath (of split bamboo, &c.); spokes of a wheel; a ledge; line, row; a rule to draw lines by; a small plank, board, tablet, table (as in 'plane-table'); a small rectangular board on which children write (=pāṭī); a morsel of betel-leaf made up with betel-nut, lime, &c. H پتی पत्ती pattī [S. पत्त्त्र+इका], s.f. Leaf; leaves; hemp-leaves (of which an intoxicating potion is made); a leaf or thin plate (of metal); a hem; a share (=paṭṭī):—pattī jhāṛnā (-kī), To beat off the leaves (of trees):—pattī jhaṛnā, v.n. To shed its leaves (a tree):—pattī-dār, s.m. Share-holder (=paṭṭī-dār).

A board on which Hindūs sit whilst eating their meals or performing religious ceremonies; a fuller's board, board, table; seat; a lock of hair, ringlet, curl; the collar of a horse, or of a dog, &c.; girth of a horse; shoulder-strap and badge (of a peon, &c.); gold or silver threads of an old native shoe; an ornament (worn by women as an appendage to the bālī); an ornament for the forehead, frontlet; a deed (com. a title-deed to land), a deed of lease; a code or book of regulations for the guidance of rent-collectors:—paṭṭā utārnā (-kā), To take off the strap and badge, to dismiss from service:—paṭṭā-pher, s.m. Exchange of seats by the bride and bridegroom at the conclusion of a (Hindu) marriage ceremony:—paṭṭā turānā or turā-jānā, v.n.
