H سانس सांस sāṅs [Prk. सासो; S. श्वासः], s.f. Breath, breathing, respiration; sigh;—a unit of time (equal to six breathings); a crack or fissure (which lets in air):—sāṅs ulṭī lenā (or ulṭe sāṅs lenā), To draw in the breath, to gasp (as a person in agony):—sāṅs bharnā, To draw a deep breath; to heave a sigh, to sigh, to regret; to gasp, pant:—sāṅs ćurānā, To hold in (one's) breath, to pretend to be dead:—sāṅs ćaṛhnā (-kī), To be short of breath; to gasp, pant:—sāṅs ruknā or ruk-jānā (-kī), The breath to be stopped, to be suffocated, be stifled; to be smothered, be throttled:—sāṅs roknā (-kī), To stop the breathing (of), to suffocate, stifle; to throttle:—sāṅs-kā rog, s.m. Asthma:—sāṅs khaiṅćnā, To take a long breath; to hold in the breath; to pretend to be dead:—sāṅs lenā, To take breath, to breathe, to draw breath; to sigh, to repine.
