A صدر ṣadr, vulg. ṣadar (v.n. fr. صدر 'to issue, proceed,' &c.), s.m. & f. The breast, chest, bosom; the upper or uppermost part or end (of anything), the highest part; the first part (of); the first place or seat (in an assembly); the seat of Government, the presidency (as opp. to the provinces or the Mofussil); the head-quarters of a district; a military cantonment; the head, chief or principal (in comp. it may often be rendered adjectively as 'chief, principal, supreme, foremost, first,' &c.);—exaltation, pre-eminence;—adv. At the top; above; before (used in comp., e.g. mufaṣṣila-ě-ṣadar, 'detailed above, or before-detailed'):—ṣadr-ě-aʻz̤am, s.m. A prime minister:—ṣadr-aʻlạ̄, s.m.=ṣadr-ě-ṣudūr, q.v.:—ṣadr-amīn, s.m. Head or chief amīn, q.v.;—a subordinate judge (lower than ṣadr-aʻlạ̄;—the office has been abolished):—ṣadr-bāzār, s.m. The chief bazār in a military cantonment:—ṣadr-borḍ, s.m.
