H تپ तप tap [S. तपस्], s.m. Devout austerity, religious penance, &c. (=tapas, q.v.); the hot season, the height of summer:—tap-ādhār, adj. Depending on the merit of penance:—tap-ādhārī, s.m. One who depends for salvation on the merit of his deeds of penance:—tap karnā, v.n. To do penance.

Covering, cover, the upper part or fly (of a tent); the hood (of a carriage, &c.); sound of dropping (as of rain, &c.); dropping, patter, drop (of rain, &c.);—spring, leap, bound:—ṭap-ā-ṭap, ṭap-ṭap, adv. With a sound like that of a dropping liquid; drop-drop, patter-patter; in continuous drops, in a shower (as rain, tears, bullets, &c.); one after another, continuously, successively.
