Identity: Renowned historical novelist, journalist, and writer
Naseem Hijazi is regarded as one of the most popular and influential Urdu novelists, who brought extraordinary public recognition to historical fiction. Through his novels, he portrayed the rise and fall of Muslims in a highly engaging, emotional, and vividly descriptive manner, leaving a lasting impact on generations of Urdu readers.
His real name was Sharif Hussain. He was born in 1914 in Gurdaspur district (Punjab). After the partition of India, his family migrated to Pakistan, where he spent the rest of his life.
He began his professional career in journalism and remained associated with several newspapers and journals, including Weekly Tanzeem (Quetta), Daily Hayat (Karachi), Daily Zamana (Karachi), Daily Tameer (Rawalpindi), and Daily Kohistan (Rawalpindi). Through his writings, he also contributed to the Pakistan Movement, particularly in regions like balochistan and sindh, where his work helped raise public awareness.
His main fame comes from historical novels. His works are not merely a narration of events but present a vivid and dynamic world where characters, dialogues, and situations deeply engage the reader. His notable novels include Dastan-e-Mujahid, Insan aur Devta, Muhammad bin Qasim, Aakhri Chattan, Shaheen, Khak aur Khoon, Yusuf bin Tashfeen, Aakhri Maarka, Qaisar o Kisra, Talwar Toot Gayi, Qafila-e-Hijaz, and Andheri Raat ke Musafir. Themes like Islamic history, struggle, sacrifice, moral strength, and national pride are central to his works.
Apart from historical fiction, he also wrote satire and humor, including Porus ke Hathi, Saqafat ki Talash, Safeed Jazeera, and Sau Saal Baad. His travelogue Pakistan se Diyar-e-Haram tak was also widely appreciated.
His works gained immense popularity, were translated into several languages, and adapted into visual media. His novels Shaheen and Aakhri Chattan were made into television dramas, while Khak aur Khoon was adapted into a film.
Death: He passed away on 2 March 1996 in Rawalpindi.
