Profile of Shahnaz Muzammil
Real Name : Shahnaz
Born : 10 Apr 1948 | Faisalabad, Punjab
Identity: Eminent poet, writer, and founder of “Adab Saraye”
Shehnaz Muzammil was born in 1948 in Faisalabad into a literary and intellectual family. Her father, Muzammil Hussain Qadri (Hashr Qadri), was himself a distinguished poet whose guidance and upbringing greatly influenced and refined her literary taste. She began her professional career as a librarian and later served in important positions, including at Model Town Library and as Chief Administrator of Quaid-e-Azam Library, Lahore.
The poetic style of Shehnaz Muzammil reflects purity, grace, and refinement. Rather than focusing on conventional romantic themes, her poetry emphasizes thought, awareness, human compassion, and the preservation of social and moral values. As a woman poet, she has also strongly advocated for women’s rights and highlighted social oppression through her poetry.
Alongside her literary contributions, Shehnaz Muzammil established a permanent literary platform called “Adab Saraye” at her residence to encourage emerging writers. Prominent literary personalities regularly participate in its gatherings. So far, she has published 15 poetry collections and 7 prose works, including Noor-e-Kul, Qarz-e-Wafa, Jada-e-Irfan, and Kitabiyat-e-Iqbal. In recognition of her literary and scholarly services, she has received several honors, including the “Salma Tasadduq Award.”
