Profile of Bedil Library, Karachi

Bedil Library, Karachi: Established in July 1974 by Dr. Zafir-ul-Hasan with a modest collection of 300 books and journals in a single room, Bedil Library has grown into a repository of nearly 85,000 books and periodicals. The library is named after the renowned Persian poet Mirza Abdul Qadir Bedil.

Bedil Library is regarded as one of Karachi’s oldest and most significant rare-book libraries. In addition to its extensive collection of books, it preserves approximately fifty rare Urdu and Persian manuscripts. The library also houses archival records of eleven newspapers published in different languages. It is located in Sharafabad, behind Bahadurabad, in Karachi.

A substantial portion of Bedil Library’s collection is now available through Rekhta’s Digital Library, enabling readers and researchers around the world to access and benefit from these rare literary resources.
