About The Author

Karamat Ali Karamat was born on September 23, 1936 in Cuttack (Odisha). A gold medalist in M.Sc, he obtained a Ph.D in Mathematics and started teaching at his alma mater in Cuttack. Besides being a famous poet and critic, Dr. Karamat Ali Karamat is also an expert in Ilm-e-Arooz. Karamat has won many distinguished awards for his contributions to the literal and academic world including a Sahitya Academy Translation Prize for the year 2004.

Karamat Ali has long been a strong proponent of Aazad Ghazal and has led the call for it from the front both creatively and critically. He has also been credited for contributing immensely to Odisha's distinct identity in the Urdu speaking world.
