About The Author

Identity: Historian, Researcher, and Obituarist

Professor Muhammad Aslam was born on November 28, 1932, in Phillaur Tehsil, Jalandhar District (British India). His father's name was Tufail Muhammad. He completed his entire education from primary level up to M.A. in Lahore. In 1958, he moved to England for higher studies, where he earned a B.A. (Honors) from Durham University, an M.A. in Persian from the University of Manchester, and an M.Lit. degree from the University of Cambridge.

Upon his return to his homeland in 1967, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of History at the University of the Punjab. Advancing through various stages of teaching, research, and academic excellence, he eventually rose to become a Professor and the Head of the History Department, from which he retired on November 27, 1992. He also served as the Secretary of the West Pakistan Urdu Academy for some time.

Professor Muhammad Aslam is widely recognized among the prominent historians, researchers, and educationists of Pakistan. He achieved particular renown as a master obituarist. His authentic research documentation on the biographies and burial sites of Pakistan’s academic, literary, political, and social stalwarts established a groundbreaking tradition in this field.

His notable publications include 'Wafiyat-e-Mashahir-e-Pakistan', 'Khuftagan-e-Karachi', 'Khuftagan-e-Khak-e-Lahore', 'Wafiyat-e-Ayan-e-Pakistan', 'Deen-e-Ilahi Aur Us Ka Pasmanzar', 'Tarikhi Maqalat', 'Sarmaya-e-Umr', 'Salatin-e-Dehli Aur Shahan-e-Mughlia Ka Zauq-e-Musiqi', 'Safarname-e-Hind', 'Malfuzati Adab Ki Tarikhi Ahmiyat', and 'Muhammad Bin Qasim Aur Us Ke Ja-Nashin'. He also edited 'Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi Ke Political Maktubat' and translated the Persian text 'Suluk al-Muluk' into English under the title "Muslim Conduct of State".

Death: Professor Muhammad Aslam passed away on October 6, 1998, in Lahore.
