The organization's first formal meeting was held on 31 October 2017 at Ghalib Academy, Nizamuddin, New Delhi.
Banat brings together women associated with diverse literary genres, including fiction, poetry, literary criticism, essays, and sketches. Its membership comprises both established and emerging writers, along with women authors from different countries, giving the organization a truly international character.
The primary objectives of Banat are to recognize the literary contributions of women writers, promote women's writing, encourage literary dialogue, and organize activities for the advancement of the Urdu language and literature. To achieve these goals, the organization regularly hosts literary gatherings, discussions, seminars, mushairas, and special events, including International Women's Day and its Foundation Day celebrations. Its WhatsApp group and the Banat Live platform also play an active role in promoting literary discussions, sharing creative writing, and disseminating literary news.
Within a short span of time, Banat has organized numerous successful literary programs in collaboration with Urdu academies, universities, and literary institutions, establishing itself as a dynamic and influential platform for women writers. A selected portion of its literary publications and activities is now also available on the Rekhta Digital Library, enabling readers and researchers across the world to access and benefit from its literary contributions.
