April Fool Ghazal_____ In April 1927, under the guise of Ghalib, Maulvi Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil, the head of Model School Bhopal, played an April Fool's joke on the entire country. He composed a highly ornate ghazal in Ghalib's name and published it in his school's magazine, “Gauhar-e-Taleem”. Along with the ghazal, he added a note stating that he had found it among the tattered pages of the library of Yar Muhammad Khan. Later, this ghazal was published in the Lahore-based magazine “Humayun”, and referencing “Humayun”, Khwaja Hasan Nizami reprinted it in his newspaper “Munadi”. Thus, to this day, Maulvi Muhammad Ibrahim Khalil continues to fool us all in Ghalib's name, as this ghazal is also included in the “Nuskha-e-Arshi” (a well-known collection of Ghalib's works).
bhūle se kaash vo idhar aa.eñ to shaam ho
kyā lutf ho jo ablaq-e-daurāñ bhī raam ho
tā gardish-e-falak se yūñhī sub.h-o-shām ho
saaqī kī chashm-e-mast ho aur daur-e-jām ho
betāb huuñ balā se kan-añkhiyoñ se dekh leñ
ai ḳhush-nasīb kaash qazā kā payām ho
kyā sharm hai harīm hai mahram hai rāz-dār
maiñ sar-ba-kaf huuñ teġh-e-adā be-niyām ho
maiñ chheḌne ko kaash use ghuur luuñ kahīñ
phir shoḳh-dīda bar-sar-e-sad-intiqām ho
ghul-mil ke chashm-e-shauq qadam-bos hī sahī
vo bazm-e-ġhair hī meñ hoñ par izhdihām ho
itnī piyūñ ki hashr meñ sarshār hī uThūñ
mujh par jo chashm-e-sāqī-e-bait-ul-harām ho
pīrāna-sāl ġhālib-e-maikash kare gā kyā
bhopāl meñ mazīd jo do din qiyām ho
