ḳhaak hote rahe nibhāte rahe
saarī bātoñ pe muskurāte rahe
ham ko darkār thī koī vahshat
ghar meñ ik dasht sā banāte rahe
jaate jaate bhī ham na jaañ se ga.e
aap bhī aa rahe the aate rahe
kashtiyāñ Dūbtī rahīñ yuuñ hī
aur mallāh giit gaate rahe
ḳhud ko paayā thā ek 'umr ke baa'd
ḳhud ko sunte rahe sunāte rahe

hum ko darkar thi koi wahshat
