Ahmad Rahi was born in Amritsar, British India and migrated to Lahore in 1947. His collection of Punjabi poems and songs entitled "Tarinjan" was a bestselling title for decades. His first book, Trinjan, was published in 1952, which was a poetry collection having themes of Punjabi culture and partition. The folk characters like Heer, Sahiban, Sohni all are present in his works. It is said that he wrote over 1,900 songs for Urdu and Punjabi films. It was Ahmad Rahi's lament poems (included in the last section of Tarinjan) which he wrote to mourn the loss of life and barbaric cruelty displayed by Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs at the time of the partition of British India into the two independent nations of Pakistan and India in 1947. Apart from it he had also written a poetic collection titled 'Rag e Jaan'. The man who had received the Pride of Performance award,  died at the age of 79 on September 2, 2002.
