Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (1876–1938) was a great novelist and storyteller from Bengal who gained immense popularity in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, and several other Indian languages.
His writings centered around human emotions, social injustice, class divide, and the plight of women.
He created characters that reflected deep emotions, resistance, and social truths. His novels Devdas, Sharmili, Parasnath, Bijayini, Badi Didi, and Palita left a profound impact on Hindi and Urdu readers.
Many of his novels were adapted into films in Hindi, Urdu, Tamil, and other languages — most notably Devdas, which was turned into several successful films over the decades.
