A حفظ ḥifz̤ (inf. n. of حفظ 'to preserve,' &c.), s.m. Preservation, keeping, care, custody, guardianship, protection;—memory;—adv. From memory; by heart:—ḥifz̤ paṛhnā (-ko), To repeat from memory, to say by heart:—ḥifz̤ karnā, v.t. To commit to memory:—ḥifz̤-ě-mā taqaddum, s.m. حافظ ḥāfiz̤ act. part. n. fr. حفظ 'to keep, guard, c.
A حافظ ḥāfiz̤ (act. part. n. fr. حفظ 'to keep, guard, &c.), s.m. A keeper, guardian, protector, preserver, governor; the Preserver of all things (a name of the Deity);—one who has the whole Qǒrʼān by heart; a blind man (so called because such very commonly know the Qǒrʼān by heart);—adj. Having a good memory:—ḥāfiz̤-ě-ḥaqīqī, The true God, God.
