اشراف ashrāf

A اشراف ashrāf, s.m. pl. (of شريف sharīf), Nobles, noblemen, grandees, persons of high extraction, gentlemen, gentlefolk; honourable men; (in Rohilkhand, Oude, and Benares) a class of cultivators who claim certain

privileges;—adj. Well-born, of good family, noble; gentle, meek, mild; refined, courteous, urbane.

A اسراف isrāf [inf. n. iv of سرف 'to be negligent,' &c.], s.m. Excess, extravagance, profusion, prodigality, lavish expenditure, abuse of wealth; dissipation, ruin.

اصراف iṣrāf

A اصراف iṣrāf [inf. n. iv of صرف 'to turn'; to exchange; to expend'], s.m. Expenditure; waste, extravagance, prodigality:—isrāf karnā, v.t. To expend; to squander, waste, dissipate, &c.

A اشرف ashraf, adj. compar. & superl. (of شريف sharīf), Nobler; noblest; most eminent;—s.m. A person of noble birth, nobleman; gentleman:—ashrafuʼl-maḵẖlūqāt, The noblest or most excellent of created things, mankind:—ashrafuʼn-nās, Noblest of men.
